Businesses Grow
Business is growing for two independent retailers on Union Street, opposite St Mary Magdalene, the outlook is good even though the economic climate is difficult. Over this last year both businesses have grown and innovated, bucking the national trend.
Euro Angling is run by Lee and Shaun Piddington, a Father and Son team. They have had an online business for over six years selling specialist fishing equipment. They moved into retail premises in February 2011 and have found the business go from strength to strength.
Lee says, “fishing is big business”. They sell equipment for world fishing, so people come and find them before big trips abroad. That could be to purchase a simple travel rod or equipment for shark fishing in Australia. The retail business is accessible with plenty of foot traffic. Baileys Pet Supplies has had a shop on Union Street for three years and is run by Graham Andrews. He has been in the Pet Trade since 1996 and has huge knowledge and experience.
More recently Graham’s business has also gone online. A year ago business was struggling, but Graham has now set up an eBay shop called Devonshire Pet Supplies. It specializes in flea and worming products and sends a large number of orders out each day. Graham is really encouraged by recent growth and hopes the business will continue to grow and diversify.
