Locked Church

Over this term we have been experimenting with opening up the church so that people can come and encounter God. It has been encouraging and fruitful.

Richard Sale very kindly sent me a poem that he has written on the theme.

A LOCKED CHURCH SAYS

Jesus said : “Knock, and it shall be opened to you”.

A locked church says :”It’s no use knocking here”.

Jesus said : “I will give you the keys of the Kingdom”.

A locked church says : “No entry – unless you already have a key”.

Jesus said : “Come to me , all who are weary and heavy laden”.

A locked church says : “Don’t come, except at the appointed times.”

Jesus said : “Lay not up for yourselves treasure on earth”.

A locked church says : “My priority is to keep the treasure in here safe.”

Jesus said : “You cannot serve both God and Mammon”.

A locked church says : “I have to serve the requirements of the insurance company”.

If Jesus came to a locked church

He would break down the door.
